Galvez was born in Barcelona (Spain) and lived in Paris from 1965 to 1992. Currently, he is living in Barcelona. In the sixties, he worked in the world of Theatre, both in Spain and in Paris. In 1969, he started collaborating with Luís Buñuel and began producing work and pictures of the famous Spanish and universal film maker, entitled: “Fingerprints of Antonio Galvez’s look on Buñuel” (113 pictures). In 1970, he produced works on the renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi and started his collection of interpreted portraits of prominent characters among painters, sculptors, writers, poets and film makers, entitled ”My friends The Brainies” (61 pictures).
In the early seventies, he contributed to various films. From 1973 to 1992, he worked on his collection on the theme of our world’s lunacy, “This false light of day” (77 pictures). From 1976 to 1979, he produced ten original books in the shape of a case, with pictures and hand written texts from renowned contemporary writers, entitled “Antonio Gálvez and the decomposition of myths” (10 pictures + 5 texts). In 1979, he worked at UNESCO in Paris, as an author and consultant for the photos of the International Year of the Child. In 1987, he worked out his collection named “The ten commandments” and started his collection “Eroticism with Quevedo’s irony” (81 pictures). He has been awarded various national and international prizes. He has published his own books and has contributed to many others. An important press-book witnesses his artistic route.![]()
In 1966, after his exhibition in Paris at the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt (formerly the Théâtre de la ville), he was invited by Jean VILAR to show his works at the International Theatre Festival in Avignon in France in 1968. Gálvez’s look on Buñuel” by Prince Felipe de Borbón together with Spanish officials. 2000 : Montpellier’s Festival (France) / Sitges’ Festival (Spain) / Barcelona at the Círculo del Arte (3 months) / 2001 : Castres (France) - Goya Festival (2 months). 2002 : Arles (France) -Van Gogh’s Foundation” participates in Francis Bacon’s exhibition. 2003 : Guadalajara (Spain).2003 to now : More Exhibitions in Japan (Tokyo), Croatia (several cities), Marrackech....
The French Fond national d’Art contemporain and the Bibliothèque
nationale de France, together with Spanish state-owned and importante private
entities have bought some of his works.
